In April, Hope and I took a little trip to Cat Island, Bahamas. Below is a quick recap of what we did each day, along with links to pictures. Feel free to comment and ask questions if you plan on making your own trip to Cat Island.

Day 6, Thursday

Leaving day. I got up at 7 AM and started packing my stuff. Hope, of course, didn’t like that I was up so early, but what can I say? I was ready to get this over with. Our taxi was right on time, although it was not who we expected. Leslie told us to expect the illusive Omar. But yet again, we got the same taxi driver we had on the way in. This was just one of several things that didn’t happen as expected or was just a little bit backwards. Did Omar even exist? The French Canadians said he did, but they’re French so you just never know. Je plaisante!

We arrived at Arthur’s Town Airport about an hour early after the 25 minute, $45 taxi ride. And just so we would have one more of those “not as expected” moments, we see Ned walking around the airport parking lot. What was he doing here? And why couldn’t he have given us a ride? We never found out but think we gave another group a ride. Who knows for sure.

The flight took off at 9:50, hopped over to New Bight Airport, and then headed to Nassau. We were warned many times that Nassau was slow and that you needed 3 hours to make your connection. We had 2 hours. But it all worked out. Customs was a breeze and we were off to get some normal food in the airport – Wendy’s for Hope and Quizno’s for me.

We took off around 1 PM and landed in Charlotte around 3 PM. All was well and we were almost home.

  1. No, I figured this blog would serve as the memory book. But thanks for being my one and only commenter!

  2. Thanks for putting this travel blog together! Your pics are great!! We really want to go to Cat Island, but can't decide between the Boathouse & Shannas Cove Resort. Beginning to think maybe we should split our trip b/tw the two. Thanks again, I'm sure I will visit your blog many more times while trying to decide! :)

    1. Hi Sherry,

Well you obviously know what I think about the Boat House. I can't provide any input to Shannas Cove though. I did think the little rooms at the Pigeon Cay Beach Club looked neat from the outside, but I didn't see the inside.

  3. very interesting and truthful i really want to visit bimini but want to do it on the cheap, i'm sure your stay there was expensive to rent boat house, its to bad food and especially seafood has to be such a rip off its like your paying someone their daily wage for supper and it should cost pennys or free to just catch your own fish and cook it, and know its fresh and enjoy the experience, thats my plan anyway and the taxi rides again, i just don't like being taken advantage of, and havin gone to the Bahamas before it seems its alot about locals being really friendly while getting rich off you. i guess its just a pet peave i have or does anyone else agree?to me some of the adventure would be to motor in stay in boat at different marinas for $20 a night or moor for free with solar power and a 550 w Ac unit that can run off batt and inverter set up, i understand there no way in the heat to live without ac but id like to boat there bring food and drink, water, a hugh island raft to pump up and louge on in the water and on beach,a spear and fish for free and catch lobster and basically enjoy life here and my only expense is fuel for my boat to go the 50 miles to here can i get any amens? to me thats even more of an adventure and without seeming to be taken advantage of,.well i did enjoy your story thanks for sharing, have you been back or found somewhere even better in your journeys since?

  5. I want to thank you for the video, pics and blog. My husband and I are going to The Boathouse in about 2 weeks and are very excited as we've been wanting to do this for several years. I'm very much a detail oriented person and try to learn as much about a place as I can before I visit. You've helped tremendously! Thank you very much.

    1. Hi Melissa,

I'm glad my blog has helped you. I would really love to hear how your trip was afterwards. I've got a couple tips for you:

      1. Since you're a detail-oriented person, be prepared to throw those details out the window once you get there and expect things to not happen as you thought they would. Just relax and operate on island time :)

      2. If you attempt to tackle Alligator Creek with a canoe, good luck. I don't know if it was just the time of year we were there or what, but I never saw the water deep enough to canoe in. If I could do it again, I would start in the ocean and paddle around Alligator Point and back into Alligator Creek rather than starting behind the boat house. But this will be a decent paddle.
